1980 signed the beginning of the most tragic period of the 36 years long Guatemalan internal armed conflict. In this year the Guatemalan Army bombed and then entry on to the remote community of San Miguel Uspatán, Quiche, called El Desengaño.
The army destroyed over 100 homes and killed 147 people between men, women and children. The survivors manage to escape by hiding in to surrounding bushes.
Later on some of them became member of CPR, (Comunidad de Poplacion en Resistancia) some joined the EGP (Ejercito Guerrillero de los Pobre), others find refuge on different area of Guatemala and to the near Mexico.
After 30 years the survivors and their family, over 400 people, reunited to commemorate the victims at the ruin of the old church.
